University Description

NIC operates across Vancouver Island with four main campuses in Comox Valley (Courtenay), Campbell River, Port Alberni, and Port Hardy, along with a learning center in Ucluelet. Its largest campus, in Comox Valley at 2300 Ryan Road, features six buildings including Raven Hall (science labs and photography), Discovery Hall (library and student services), Shadbolt Studio (fine arts), and Tyee Hall (bookstore, cafeteria, and computer labs). Additional vocational centers include the Tebo Vocational Centre in Port Alberni and the Vigar Road Vocational Centre in Campbell River.

The college serves over 9,000 students annually, including 391 international learners from 45 countries. NIC offers more than 80 programs and over 1,000 courses, spanning arts, sciences, engineering, health and human services, trades, tourism, hospitality, and digital design. Credentials include certificates, diplomas, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees such as the Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting, Marketing, General Management) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing, offered in partnership with Vancouver Island University. Notable programs include the Engineering Foundation Certificate and Youth Train in Trades.

NIC emphasizes experiential learning, small class sizes (12–35 students), and personalized support through services like peer tutoring, career advising, and mental health counseling. International students benefit from the Office of Global Engagement, which provides workshops, excursions, and support for settlement. Transfer agreements with universities like the University of Victoria and UBC ensure seamless credit transfer and guaranteed admission for select programs.
