UK Student Visa Financial Requirements to Increase from 30 November 2026: What Nepalese Students Need to Know

Category: UK Study Visa Updates
Published: 5 November 2026

The United Kingdom is introducing changes to its Student visa financial requirements from 30 November 2026. The updated rules will increase the minimum amount international students must demonstrate to cover their living expenses while studying in the UK.

The University of Bath's Student Immigration Service has announced this change, reminding prospective international students to prepare their financial documents according to the new requirements.

For Nepalese students planning to study in the UK in 2027, understanding these changes is important for proper financial planning and a smoother visa application process.

1. What Is Changing?

Under the updated requirements, students applying for a UK Student visa on or after 30 November 2026 will need to demonstrate a higher amount of money for living expenses.

For students studying outside London, the monthly maintenance requirement will increase from £1,171 to £1,203.

Updated UK Student Visa Living Costs

Current requirement:

  • Monthly living expenses outside London: £1,171
  • Maximum living expenses for 9 months: £10,539

From 30 November 2026:

  • Monthly living expenses outside London: £1,203
  • Maximum living expenses for 9 months: £10,827

Students studying in London will also face an increase, with the monthly requirement rising to £1,570.

2. How Much Money Must Students Show?

Students must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover:

  • Outstanding tuition fees for one academic year, as stated on their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
  • Living expenses for each month of their course, up to a maximum of nine months.
  • Any additional financial requirements applicable to dependants, if eligible.

For example, a student studying outside London will need to demonstrate up to £10,827 for living expenses, in addition to the required outstanding tuition fees.

3. Important 28-Day Bank Balance Rule

Students must ensure that the required funds are maintained for at least 28 consecutive days.

The end date of this 28-day period must be within 31 days of the date of the visa application.

Students should carefully prepare their bank statements and ensure their financial documents meet UKVI requirements before submitting their applications.

4. Does This Change Affect Nepalese Students?

Yes. Nepalese students applying for a UK Student visa from 30 November 2026 onwards should prepare their financial documents according to the updated requirements.

Students planning for the January, May or September 2027 intakes should consider the revised living-cost requirements when preparing their education budget.

However, students who submit their visa applications before 30 November 2026 will not be affected by this particular increase.

5. Tips for Students Planning to Study in the UK

Before applying for a UK Student visa, students should:

  1. Check their university tuition fees and CAS details.
  2. Calculate the required living expenses based on their study location.
  3. Maintain the required funds for 28 consecutive days.
  4. Prepare valid financial documents.
  5. Check the latest UKVI guidelines before submitting the application.

Final Thoughts

The updated UK Student visa financial requirements highlight the importance of early financial planning for international students.

For Nepalese students planning to study in the UK in 2027, preparing the correct financial documents in advance can help avoid unnecessary delays and complications during the visa application process.
